Printmaking
For the second half of the term we have been experimenting with Printmaking. We have done prints with rollers, vegetables, leaves and made monoprints. Here is a photo of some of us doing our prints on the last day of term. Feel free to come in and see our artwork. Some of it is pretty high up. Mrs. Bone had to get the ladder out and had Natalie to help her!!
Measuring in Maths
Yesterday we read The Gingerbread Man and then we put five gingerbread men in order from the tallest to the shortest.

Today we played The Game of Shorts. We got into 2 lines and then looked at the front person in each line to see who was shorter. The person who was shorter took the other person back to their line.Sunday, 22 September 2013
Maths This Week
For Maths this week we are looking at length. Today we made worms out of playdough as part of our unit. Then we had to talk about our worms. Here are Jack and Aymon's long worms.

Hero Quest - Our School Production
This term we have spent a lot of time practising for our school production which was held on Wednesday and Thursday nights.
It was the first time most of us had been on the stage and there were a lot of people in the audience watching us.
It was an exciting time for all of us and the production was wonderful. We think we were the best team at coming up the back stairs and being quiet backstage. There is certainly a lot of talent at South School. We hope everyone enjoyed the production as much as we did! A lot of people put in a lot of effort to make it such an amazing show - from Miss Hutchings who wrote the script, to the backstage crew, all the people who loaned us props and costumes, the parents who helped in so many ways and last but not least all the actors i.e. the children. A big thank you to everyone.

Odd Shoe Day
Today we had Odd Shoe day at school. We were allowed to wear odd shoes and socks to school if we brought a gold coin. The money raised is for Camp Quality which is a camp that is especially for children who have cancer. The rest of New Zealand is having Odd Shoe Day tomorrow but because we have production practice tomorrow we did it today.

Jamie McDell Comes to South School
Today Jamie McDell came to Dannevirke South School. She is a singer-song writer from Auckland who wrote her first song when she was seven years old. Her album that was released last year is called Six Strings and a Sailboat. Brady welcomed her in the morning.
We were lucky enough to have our photo taken with her and to have her come and talk to Team 1 about her singing. She also helped the people who have bigger singing parts in the production and took a workshop about writing songs.
In the afternoon we had an assembly. She sang for us and answered lots of questions. Fenella and Micah thanked her and gave her a thank you present.

Spooky House
Our big book for Shared Reading this week is Spooky House. Here are some of the great stories people wrote.
I went to the Spooky House. I saw a white tail spider. I saw lots of spiders. The spider webs were sticky and they were soft. By Nate
The boy went upstairs into the room. He got scared. He went down the stairs. By Dyllin

Winter Warmers Library Programme
Nikki Price from the Library came to South School on the 23rd of August to present the certificates and books to the children in Rooms 2,3, and 4 that had done 6 report ins. We were so lucky to get such beautiful books.
Unfortunately Majah, Renee and Ryder were away that day so they are not in the photo but they did all get a beautiful book to keep! We are lucky enough to have been invited to do the programme again next Winter.
Anna Lindsay Comes to Assembly
Anna Lindsay was a student teacher in Room 3. She came to Assembly last week to talk to us about Odd Shoe Day and to share her experiences from Camp Quality. Camp Quality is a camp for children with Cancer. On the 12th of September South School is having an Odd Shoe Day to raise money for this good cause. Nationally, the day is on the Friday but since we are having a rehearsal at the Town Hall ours will be on the 12th.
